Frequently Asked Questions

  • Fractional HR is a flexible model that gives your business access to senior HR expertise without the cost and overhead of a full-time hire. Instead of a salary, benefits, vacation pay, and employer contributions, you're investing in outcomes and experience, scoped to what your business actually needs.

Most engagements run on a monthly retainer, but I also offer project-based support — whether that's a recruitment drive, a policy overhaul, or getting systems in place that your team can confidently run on their own. If it falls somewhere in between, we can figure out a structure that works.

  • It's for founders who are tired of doing everything themselves — and know it's time to bring in some HR muscle, but aren't quite ready (or don't need) a full-time People hire just yet.

That might look like a growing startup that needs structure before things get messy. A creative agency scaling fast and hiring for the first time. A business that wants solid HR systems put in place — hiring processes, onboarding, policies — that the team can actually maintain without hand-holding.

  • Practically speaking, I embed with your team in whatever way works best for you. Slack, Zoom, email — I work mostly remotely and asynchronously, which keeps things efficient and low-friction. If you want some in-person presence, that's a conversation we can have too.

Day-to-day, I might be running a recruitment process, advising a manager on a people issue, building out your onboarding experience, or helping you navigate a tricky HR situation. I travel with clients for offsites, key hiring moments, or specific projects when it makes sense.

Scope varies by engagement — some clients need ongoing strategic support, others need hands-on execution — but the common thread is that you get a real HR partner who's genuinely invested in your business, not just checking boxes.

  • Depending on availability, we can get started within a few days.

It starts with a complimentary discovery call so I can get a feel for your business and what you need. From there, I'll put together a proposal, and once we're aligned, we move into kick-off and onboarding. The whole process is designed to be straightforward — no lengthy procurement cycles, no lengthy notice periods. Just a clear scope, a signed agreement, and we're off.

  • Great work doesn't happen in a silo, and neither does running a business. One of the things I'm most proud of at Koala HR is the trusted, vetted network of specialists I've built over the years — so when a need comes up that goes beyond people and culture, I know exactly who to call.

That includes employment and immigration lawyers, group benefits brokers, executive and leadership coaches, and fractional C-suite support (CTO, CFO, CMO). On the creative and growth side, I can connect you with designers, copywriters, digital marketers, and developers too.

Everyone in my network is someone I've personally worked with and would recommend without hesitation. These aren't cold referrals — they're people I trust. So when I make an introduction, you can feel confident you're in good hands.
